Exciting news. The Warrnambool Greyhound Racing Club have joint forces with the Mt Gambier Racing Club and have come up with the Border Challenge.
The series will see 4 greyhounds from Warrnambool Challenge 4 Greyhounds from Mt Gambier with the winner scooping the $4,000 first prize.
Warrnambool will hold their heats for this event over 450m on November 28th whilst Mt Gambier’s heats will be run on Sunday November 24th over 512m. Both clubs have their own criteria for the event. The final in 2019 will be held at Warrnambool on Thursday December 4, over 450m. Warrnambool’s nominations are are to be made through the normal process.
Mt Gambier Criteria
- Trainer must be financial member of the club.
- Greyhound must have been in the trainer’s kennel for the past three months and have raced at least twice in the past 12 months at Tara Raceway.
- Trainer must have raced on at least 15 occasions in the past 12 months at Tara Raceway.
- Maximum of two heats with the first two greyhounds from each heat to represent Mount Gambier. First four to represent club if only one heat.
Warrnambool Criteria
- Greyhound have had a minimum of 2 starts in Warrnambool previously.
- Open to greyhounds at Grade 5, 6 or 7.
- Have been domiciled in the trainers kennels for no less than 3 months.
- Must be in one of the below postcodes (140kms from the club) - (distance to SA Border from here as the crow flies).
